Volunteer Opportunities
Please note: Our Volunteer Program is currently FULL. If you are interested in joining our volunteer waitlist (or are a student with a short-term volunteer request), please contact Shauna Swantek, Head of Programming & Community Engagement at swanteks@yourmdl.org or 269-781-7821 x1800. We will contact those on the waitlist as opportunities for volunteering open.
Volunteering makes your Marshall District Library (YourMDL) a great place for everyone to visit. Whether keeping us tidy, assisting at events, or donating time behind-the-scenes volunteers extend and enhance YourMDL’s services.
Adults, teens, & families are invited to volunteer. We’ll do our best to find a way that uses your skills, honors your available time, & benefits the library.
There are many ways to be involved; our staff will discuss with you how to best use your gifts.
Examples of volunteer activities include:
- Dust displays & bookshelves
- Clean play area toys
- Clean youth books & audio cases
- Adopt-a-Dewey shelf reading
- Join us for parades & events
- Fold newsletters & brochures
- Assist with display creation
- Assist with lobby display case
- Help cut & assemble materials
- Assist at large scale programs
- Lend a hand at a youth program, an adult program, or an all-ages program
- Assist with book donations & sales
While we don’t accommodate community service restitution requirements, we’re happy to provide letters of reference. (Those interested must agree to a Michigan State Police background check prior to volunteering.)
The purpose of the Volunteer Program is to provide an opportunity to extend library services by involving citizens who have an active interest in helping the library. The program is a resource that provides valuable services to meet the needs of our patrons and other visitors while allowing individuals an opportunity to contribute to their community in a manner that proves meaningful to them and beneficial for the library.
